我们刚刚来到这个世界，开始向父母、向身边的人、向整个世界索取。人之初始，生命十分稚嫩，性本善，如一片洁净无墨的白纸，要发育、要成长，我们需要向父母索取衣服、食物;需要身边的人给我们友情、陪伴、关心爱护;需要这个世界告诉我们修行的路是没有尽头的，但只要一直走，就能越走越光明，越走越敞亮。

在成长中我们渐渐有了意识，有了思想，我们有了要付出的欲望。有人说：“在那个年龄，你的心里身体里都是爱，爱浑身满心乱窜。”我们想要付出、渴望被需要的情感仿佛已经快要溢出来了，但这些付出中，有很大一部分是盲目的。我们不去考虑，或者说因为年轻根本来不及考虑对方到底是否需要这些无谓的付出，一门心思只想把自己觉得最好的送出去。如同一只宠物猫，在家里抓住一只鸡雏，满心欢喜地叼着半死不活的小鸡去主人那里邀功。看似只是宠物的荒唐行径，但其实也影射着我们新新人类的一些行为。我们将自己不合适的行为，贴上“被需要”的标签，实则只为了满足个人自私的情感。

真正做到智慧地“被需要”，是平衡好自身满足感与他人的需要，这就是所谓的君子之德——中庸。一味索取，是自私;一味付出，或许也是自私：不顾别人需求只满足了自己。需要与被需要的关系实在很微妙。“明不伤察，直不过矫，是谓蜜饯不甜，海味不咸，才是懿德。”真正把被需要转化为自身的需要，自身的满足和优质的付出相统一。所以这种付出应当是无半点私心杂念的、利他利公的。不能只考虑自己的感受而不顾及他人的感受，就如同碰上一个极度口渴的人，视而不见是过错，花重金请他吃一桌大鱼大肉也是不妥的，我们需要做的只是送上一杯清凉的白开水。

我所说的性善论和性恶论，讨论的只是我们在不谙世事时，向世界索取和成长过程中所付出的东西到底是好是坏。有趣的是这两个理论都肯定了“需要”与“被需要”这个概念，可见将其定义为人性本质不过分。而无论是一开始的需要，到盲目地渴望被需要，到后来的需要与被需要的平衡，脱掉这几层外壳，本质上来说我们只是通过不同的方法获得浅层或深层的满足感。与此同时，我们也正是从需要与被需要中，懂得了平衡，也慢慢学会了向无私高尚的人生顶峰靠近。
