　　英语报刊选读课的作用是为学生打好阅读英语报刊的语言基础，使他们掌握英文报刊的文体知识、阅读英语报刊的必要常识以及与时事新闻知识等。我们强调语言潜力的培养，并不等于否定语言知识的重要性。语言知识和语言应用潜力缺一不可，而对于英语报刊选读课来说，新闻英语文体的基础知识、英语报刊阅读的基本技能不可削弱，传授语言知识在报刊选读课堂教学中仍占有相当重要的地位。基于这根本思路，本学期在高中一年级开设了小范围的(20人)英语报刊选读课，下面我就本学期报刊阅读的教学实践作一分析。

　　1.改善授课形式，变讲课为读报活动课

　　思考到报刊选读课的特殊性，我尝试了以课内外读报的形式让学生获得报刊新闻文体知识。改变授课方式，并非仅仅换个形式，所谓换汤不换药。报刊课作为一种新的授课方式，比原有的课堂教学方式更为灵活，我们能够及时捕捉报刊上的重大新闻和时事报道，充分利用英文报刊这一学习现代英语的最佳材料。

　　事实证明，报刊阅读课使教学资料变得富有弹性。此外，我借鉴任务型教学法，提前给学生布置任务，预习和复习，以便他们更加自主地学习。课内主要指导学生英语报刊阅读方法，课外学生将在课堂上获得的语言知识充分运用。

　　2.丰富教学形式，更新教学资料

　　传统的授课方式是教师与学生人手一册教科书，这种以课本为主导的教学模式枯燥乏味，提不起学生的学习兴趣。将报刊课引入课堂变换了语言输入形式，使学生耳目一新、兴趣大增。而且我不拘泥于某一份报纸，根据多种报刊，在博采众长的基础上选取材料，课堂中的例子大多从我们手头最新的英美报刊中选用。例如，在讲到“英美报刊新闻标题的作用与特点”时，所用的实例多选自《学生双语时代》以及《21世纪报》。

　　虽然教材在教学中有着重要的作用，但无论多新的教材都与现实有不同程度的脱节。但是报刊选读课上，我们使用的材料很有时代感。比如说《学生双语时代》，该报的文章新，很有时代特色，充分体现了语言的活力和时代感。尤其是在当今信息激增的时代，报刊英语反映着日新月异的语言变化和层出不穷的新生词语。例如，运用缩略语是报刊语言的一大特色，像CEOChiefExecutiveOfficer(首席执行官)，ITinformationtechnology(信息技术)，PNTRPermanentNormalTradeRelations(永久正常贸易关系)，WAPWirelessApplicationProtocol(无线应用软件协定)等等，这些在近两年的报刊上几乎每日可见的新缩略语有的还未来得及收入字典，我们便在讲课中及时介绍英语报刊中出现频率高的新词，补充新鲜的外报外刊资料，使课程资料得到不断的更新。

　　3.主动、自主式学习潜力的培养

　　报刊课以新的授课方式激发了学生的学习兴趣，增加了他们的学习主动性。此外，由于每一次课堂信息量大，资料高度浓缩，学生不可能立即全部掌握报纸中出现的知识，而需要在课后去消化、吸收。课时的限制使他们成为了时间的主人，进而成为学习的主人，学习态度由消极被动趋于用心主动，在课前能进行预习和作一些必要的准备，并能自觉地进行课外英语报刊阅读实践，从而构成了课内吸收、课外消化的良性循环。

　　我们明白，影响外语学习的因素很多，诸如个性(personaltraits)、性别(sex)、认知方式(cognitivestyles)、学习动机(motivation)、学习策略(1earningstrategies)和兴趣(interest)等各种因素(刘润清1999：8)。由于每个人的遗传特征、努力程度等互不相同，处于同一发展阶段的不同主体既有共性的相似，也有个性的差异，而教师在课堂上往往很难针对个性差异真正做到区别要求、因材施教。报刊课的实践为学生的个性发展创造了宽松的空间，使学生能够在课外选取难易适合自己的程度、资料适合自己的兴趣的报刊阅读材料进行自主学习，学习的进度也能够根据各自的需求自我调节。兴趣和需要是学好英语不可缺少的因素，贴合自己兴趣和需要的自主性学习活动的增多对开发每个学生的潜能、激发学生对学习的兴趣颇有裨益。因此，课外学习实现了学习过程个别化，增加了语言运用的实践机会，也是教师实现因材施教、分类指导的重要途径。

　　4.提高教学效率，培养学习潜力

　　外语教学要培养成功的学习者，而不是让学生依附于教师。教育不仅仅要重视教师的教，而且要重视学生的学，要培养学生的独立潜力，使其能够独立于教师从事学习。外语教学的一个重要目的就是使学生获得主动学习的潜力，并最终摆脱教师的帮忙独立地学习和掌握语言。SaraCotteral的成功经验也告诉我们，提高语言应用潜力的有效途径是使学生对自己的语言学习承担必须的职责，并在语言学习中发挥主动性与独立性(Cotteral1995：220)。高中学生的心理和生理发展均趋成熟，高中阶段是学生智力发展的黄金时期。高中学生已具有相当高的思维水平和独立意识，这是他们自学的有利条件。本课程给学生带给了必须程度的时间和空间的自由度，使他们能够发挥其主观能动性，从各方面提高自己的学习潜力。

　　5.拓展、探究式学习潜力

　　信息靠语言传播，语言是信息的载体，而现代社会信息量又十分之大，学生要获取信息，单靠书本知识是远远不够的。英语报刊是学习和掌握现代英语的有效手段，英美报刊选读课需要学生进行超多的课外阅读实践。课外学习是课堂教学的延伸和补充，它促进学生涉猎课本以外的各种知识，拓宽了学习环境，拓展了学习范围。作为传播信息的主要媒体之一的报刊知识覆盖面广，学生通过超多的课外报刊阅读，扩大了教材的外延(extensionofteachingmaterials)，培养了阅读英语报刊的良好习惯，提高了报刊阅读的理解潜力。

　　现代教学理论以认知学习理论为指导，认为学生在教与学的过程中是一个有个性的主体，他们就应通过探索去发现、去建构知识，并注重各种潜力的发挥，学会从多角度思考问题(李国祥、张新明1998：162)。作为认知主体的学生，是学校最活跃的因素，他们有着开放的头脑、好奇的态度和探索的欲望，课外学习活动培养了他们的自学钻研精神以及在探究知识的过程中发现问题、解决问题的潜力，使他们能够通过探索和好处建构途径获取知识，从而由知识的被动学习者转变为知识的主动探索者、发现者。可见，英美报刊选读课的尝试使学生对报刊学习持续了用心的心理状态，增强了自学潜力，真正成为学习的主体，从而为自己的学习负起职责来。
